Winter isn’t winding down as fast as many parents might like, but there are enough activities at the Greater Milwaukee International Car & Truck Show to keep kids busy and engaged. And during the last weekend of the show, kids under 12 get in free on Saturday and Sunday.
Families are encouraged to let kids climb into, out of and through most of the 500 vehicles on the Wisconsin Center floor. It’s great if you’re in the market to buy and want to make sure everyone can make it to the second and third rows of seats – and feel comfortable once they arrive.
But the show also offers other diversions to help the young ’uns burn off some steam and forge memories of family fun.
Kids Track: This activity puts boys and girls behind the wheel of electric vehicles on a mini roadway on the first floor of the show. Runs 4-8 p.m. on Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Tricky Trails Golf Links: This indoor putt-putt course also raises money for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Suggested donation is just $2 per person.
Pet adoption event: Sponsor Subaru is known for making pet-friendly vehicles, but you can spend some time with, and even drive away with, a shelter dog in whatever brought to you to the show on Saturday and Sunday.
Scavenger hunt: Kids can mess around with tech while hunting down images and 3-D car models hidden on all three floors of the Wisconsin Center. Daily sweepstakes to win prizes. Requires an app that can be downloaded from QR codes at the show or autoshowmilwaukee.com.
Car Karaoke: Everyone can unleash their inner celebrity and pretend to ride with late-night TV host James Corden while singing along to karaoke music from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Classic and specialty cars: After seeing all the new cars, you can take them to see some classics, including souped-up muscle cars from Bennett Coachworks, extravagantly painted lowriders from Reyes Customs of West Allis, cars dating back more than a century from the Dahl Auto Museum of LaCrosse and one of the 12 giant Futureliner RVs General Motors made for the 1939 World’s Fair and subsequent national tour.
Tickets: $12 for adults, $9 for seniors and members of the military. Admission for kids 12 and under is $6 on weekdays and free on Saturday and Sunday.
