Just in time for Valentine's Day, local salon, day spa and all around beauty boutique Actaea Works, Ltd. spreads its lavish wings and opens a new location in Bay View, 2173 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.

The 3,500-sq. ft. spa and salon -- housed inside a renovated late-1800s Victorian home -- officially opens Thursday, Feb. 1, with an open house on Friday, Feb. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The spa features multiple massage rooms for individual and couples massages, two facial rooms, a waxing room, hand and foot treatment rooms with multiple spa pedicure chairs and manicure tables, private dressing rooms and first and second floor lounges. In addition, the first floor boutique salon offers a full line of AWL services and products from around the world.

Actaea has a training facility in Milwaukee and another spa and salon at 4001 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
