Now that the confetti is swept up from the Milwaukee Bucks' NBA championship, we unfortunately must turn our attention to the roaring gouda fire that is the Green Bay Packers and the Aaron Rodgers passive aggression fest.
There is good news, though: Aaron Rodgers is reportedly close to coming back with the Pack next season. The bad news? It may just be for next season.
After several patience-testing weeks filled with vague grumbling, "Jeopardy!" episodes, Hawaiian vacations and cryptic Instagram posts, NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter report that Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are nearing a deal to bring the three-time MVP back to Green Bay.
The #Packers and QB Aaron Rodgers are in the final stages of a reworked deal to bring him back for the 2021 season, source said. It should be official soon. Rodgers had planned to arrive for camp thanks to a thawing over the past few days. Now, he will. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 26, 2021
The reworked deal, however, would come with some significant caveats for both sides' future together. Schefter reports at ESPN that the new contract between Rodgers and the Packers would void the 2023 year in his current deal with the team as well as agree to "review Rodgers' situation at the end of the (2021-2022) season" – aka if Rodgers is still unhappy with Packers' management, the team will agree to trade conversations. According to Schefter, the new deal would also come with "mechanisms ... put in place to address Rodgers' issues with the team" as well as additional cap room for the team to use for other deals.
Other deals like, say, if the Packers had a star receiver who recently posted a Instagram meme in seemingly solidarity with Rodgers and also reportedly shut down contract talks with Green Bay.
With Aaron Rodgers expected to return to Green Bay while giving the Packers more cap room, the team now can make another run at trying to sign WR Davante Adams to an extension, per sources. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 26, 2021
Indeed, after reports late last week that Davante Adams broke off contract negotiations with Green Bay, Schefter currently reports that the star wide receiver is back in play for a deal with the Packers now that Rodgers appears to be returning for at least one more season and the team will reportedly have more money to play with.
While nothing is confirmed or signed yet, there is this:

Anyways, this has all been very exhausting and the opposite of fun. Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more updates – but emotionally, this nicely wraps up my feelings on this and all future Packers news for the next month or so:

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
