Sometimes, you have to try something new. This week, I decided to do just that.
Back in college, I hosted a weekly radio show. It was a lot of fun, and something that I miss about those college days. After writing about Milwaukee hip-hop and other music for over a year, I decided that I want to build upon what I offer the musical gods.
I have started a podcast ... or what I like to call an iShow.
The show is a weekly show, premiering each Wednesday or Thursday, and can be streamed on my website.
I'm going to have special guests most of the weeks. For instance, my first guest is independent rap legend Tech N9ne. I interviewed him for a feature piece that ran on OMC not too long ago, but we talked on the phone for 50 minutes and there was just too much meat to throw away. I could've transcribed all 50 minutes, but I'm not necessarily into writing books for posts.
So instead of tossing it, I found a home for it.
I'm going to play songs by both Milwaukee and non-Milwaukee artists. I'm going to talk a little bit. I'm also going to have special guest correspondents each week from different cities around the Midwest, telling you about what's going on in their neck of the woods.
This show is more about Midwest unity in my mind than just being a "local" show, similar to how The MadKids play a great mixture of music from around the country while also letting you know about the Milwaukee scene. They have listeners all over the world, and do a great job with their WMSE show!

Born in Milwaukee and raised in the Milwaukee suburb of Brown Deer, Concordia University Wisconsin alumnus Poppe has spent the majority of his life in or around the city and county of Milwaukee.
As an advocate of Milwaukee's hip-hop community Poppe began popular local music blog Milwaukee UP in March 2010. Check out the archived entries here.
Though heavy on the hip-hop, Poppe writes about other genres of music and occasionally about food, culture or sports, and is always ready to show his pride in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
