In reality, the first three were spent building the infrastructure, the next three developing and growing our wonderful team and the last two truly establishing ourselves as a part of the local media landscape and as one of the best, independent online media companies in the country. But, I digress.
“Conversation” isn’t a term that you’ll hear many old-school media use when discussing their products. Media is no longer a sermon, although far too many “newspaper people” think it is. Media, today, is a conversation. You react to our stories; you talkback with our exclusive talkback system and soon you’ll be able to submit your own Milwaukee content. We’re all Milwaukeeans, and news is everywhere. Why should we tell you what happened or is happening when you very well may know better?
Sure, as we voyage into our ninth year, OnMilwaukee.com will continue to provide amazing and original content. Our sports staff is now the best in the market, and our music, business and entertainment coverage has never been better.
We are enjoying record readership, record advertising and sponsorship. We have many new announcements on the horizon, and expect continued growth, innovation and expansion. And, to the amazement of many (though not us), we are doing this all in right here in Milwaukee.
Google “Milwaukee,” will you? OnMilwaukee.com ranks second or third, right behind the entity that markets the area, Visit Milwaukee. Not bad -- actually quite amazing -- for such a young organization.
On behalf of everyone here at OMC, we thank you for your passionate readership, friendship, compliments and even occasional criticisms. We get up every day and work to build community and grow our business. We have a blast and are blessed to be able to do what we do.
I’ll be using this space occasionally to update you on our company, our growth and our industry. It’s an exciting time for media, and we are proud to be leading the charge in our hometown.
A life-long and passionate community leader and Milwaukeean, Jeff Sherman is a co-founder of OnMilwaukee.
He grew up in Wauwatosa and graduated from Marquette University, as a Warrior. He holds an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University, and is the founding president of Young Professionals of Milwaukee (YPM)/Fuel Milwaukee.
Early in his career, Sherman was one of youngest members of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, and currently is involved in numerous civic and community groups - including board positions at The Wisconsin Center District, Wisconsin Club and Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. He's honored to have been named to The Business Journal's "30 under 30" and Milwaukee Magazine's "35 under 35" lists.
He owns a condo in Downtown and lives in greater Milwaukee with his wife Stephanie, his son, Jake, and daughter Pierce. He's a political, music, sports and news junkie and thinks, for what it's worth, that all new movies should be released in theaters, on demand, online and on DVD simultaneously.
He also thinks you should read OnMilwaukee each and every day.
