My annual article, 52 Restaurants for your Bucket List, was originally created to provide readers with an easy way to explore the wealth of restaurants in the Milwaukee scene over the course of one year (52 weeks). Today, as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, it provides a fun and equally compelling guide for folks who’d like to bring variety to their weekly meals while providing vital support to some of our finest local restaurants.

Here's the featured restaurant of the day, plus delicious food you can order this week!

Lazy Suzan
2378 S. Howell Ave., (414) 988-7086

From wild game to inventive vegetable dishes and gluten-free options; you’ll find it all at Lazy Susan, a casual Bay View spot with a homey, eclectic feel. Menus during COVID-19 change weekly, so it’s worth it to sign up for their newsletter, which notifies interested guests about the restaurant’s ever-changing weekly offerings, including great deals on four-course dinners for two!

Note: All orders are pre-order only. Place yours by calling (414) 988-7086  Tuesdays from 1-5 p.m., Wednesdays from 1-7 p.m., Thursdays from 1-7 p.m.  Orders can also be placed by email at lazyreservations@gmail.com (through Thursday at 7 p.m.; include your name, your full order and pick-up time in the email.

Here’s what’s on the docket this week (including one of my favorite specials on Friday):

  1. Wednesday gluten-free comfort food dinner: sherried onion soup with parmesan crisps and croutons; warm Brussels sprouts salad with dried cherries, squash and goat cheese; smoked, braised pork belly with apple sage gravy and scalloped potatoes; and pumpkin cake roll with candied ginger cream cheese filling ($25 for one or $50 for two)

  2. Thursday Latin-inspired vegan dinner (also gluten-free): pozole rojo with tofu chorizo; cumin scented pinto bean dip with crispy flatbread; eggplant carnitas stuffed poblanos with avocado corn relish and smokey roasted tomato sauce; and chipotle chocolate cake ($20 for one; $40 for two)

  3. Friday Korean fried chicken: Ultra crisp gluten-free fried chicken served with housemade spam macaroni and cheese, housemade kimchi, sticky rice, miso creamed corn and two dipping sauces (half-chicken for two, $30; or whole chicken for four, $60)  Trust me; you want the whole chicken. The leftovers are amazing.
