It's somehow already the final week of 2021, which means everyone's looking back at the year that was – the funny moments, the tragic moments and the moments that we would've sworn took place two years ago but no really actually happened this year. (That boat blocked the Suez Canal IN 2021?! That can't be right; time is wrong.)

We're all busy people, though, so if you'd like to recap the past 365 days in less than 30 seconds, this Instagram post is here to help.

Posted by Mosheh Oinounou, the quick viral map gathers together a year's worth of each state's most popular daily Google searches and speeds through the year's biggest news stories in less than a minute. Some of them are predictable and memorable – "Biden" throughout January, Simone Biles during the summer Olympics. Others are a little more unexpected, like "AMC Stock." And then there's Valheim, which ... apparently was a thing throughout the month of February? Have I outed myself as an old for not knowing what this is?

Anyways, take a look at the year in trends:

DESCRIPTION

For those wondering, here were the Wisconsin trends, in order:

  • Capitol
  • Mega Millions
  • Biden
  • GME
  • The Weeknd
  • Valheim
  • Stimulus Check
  • Valheim
  • Lil Nas X
  • DMX
  • Jake Paul
  • Prince Philip
  • Jake Paul
  • Dogecoin
  • AMC Stock
  • Power Outage
  • AMC Stock
  • Jeff Bezos
  • Simone Biles
  • AMC Stock
  • Power Outage
  • Afghanistan
  • Jake Paul
  • Afghanistan
  • Gabby Petito
  • Brian Laundrie
  • "Squid Game"
  • Urban Meyer
  • "Squid Game"
  • Adele
  • Alec Baldwin
  • Travis Scott
  • Kyle Rittenhouse
  • Adele
  • Oxford High School
  • Spotify Wrapped
  • Tornado

I'm starting to doubt these numbers. If this was accurate, considering the past year, Wisconsin would have a lot more "Aaron Rodgers" results – potentially twelve months of them. And also I'd like to imagine that we're not looking up Jake Paul this much. Please. We have to be better than that.

Anyways, enjoy this rapid recap through the year that soon will be, and have a wonderful new year. We'll see you in 2022! (But really: Can somebody explain what Valheim is to me?)

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
