During the day on Saturday, the Milwaukee Radio Alliance, flipped the figurative switch to launch into holiday mode, taking its WZTI-AM 1290 and going around the clock with Christmas music.

For the past few months, the group had been rebroadcasting its AM signal on the FM dial at the lower-powered 100.3. Through a branding effort, both stations are being called, "The Elf."

For years, many dial jumpers spent the days guessing which station would be the first to change formats for the season. Since 1290 dropped the "Talk of the Town" format a couple of years ago, WZTI 1290 has been the first of the few to do so.

So, as of the change on Saturday, the AM and FM stations have had nonstop Christmas music and streaming it online at 1003theelf.com.

"I lost a bet to an elf and now elves are literally taking over 100.3 FM and 1290 AM until Christmas. Although I never like to lose a bet, we are proud to be Milwaukee’s home for Christmas music this holiday season," Bill Hurwitz, Milwaukee Radio Alliance vice president and GM, said in a release.

SPEAKING OF RADIO: The latest ratings in the local market did show a little movement among the rankings in October, as country station WMIL-FM 106.1 maintained its run on first place.

SPORTS STILL LEAD: The conclusion of the baseball World Series with the Game 7 victory of the San Francisco Giants over the Kansas City Royals beat everything else that aired on television that day.

The game that aired locally on WITI-TV Fox 6 averaged a 14.1 for the broadcast. That beat other shows with new episodes in primetime like "Criminal Minds" with a 9.1 on WDJT-TV CBS 58, "Modern Family" at 7.9 on WISN-TV ABC 12 and "Mystery of Laura" at 4.3 on WTMJ-TV NBC 4.

Other programs that aired on Oct. 29 were:

WISN: "The Middle" 6.9, "Black-ish" 6.4, "The Goldbergs" 5.1, "Nashville" 4.2.

WDJT: "Survivor" 6.4, "Stalker" 6.0.

WTMJ: "Chicago PD" 2.3, "Law & Order: SVU" 2.1.

FOOTBALL: CBS and NFL Network’s "Thursday Night Football" on Oct. 23 was the highest-rated and most watched program across the county two weeks ago. Denver’s 35-21 victory over San Diego that aired locally on WDJT-TV CBS 58, was seen by an average of 20.2 million viewers.

Now, "Thursday Night Football" is exclusively on the NFL Network, and will probably drop in ratings for the rest of the season without the boost from the national CBS audience.
